Writing Effective Target Persona Queries

How to describe your audience so the Agent can source the right prospects automatically.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

When you choose Auto prospect sourcing in the Campaign Wizard, your Agent uses natural language targeting to find high-quality leads for you. The key to getting great results is providing a clear, focused audience description that the Agent can translate into smart filters.

How It Works

When you enter your audience description—such as:

“VPs, Sales Directors, and Sales Managers at mid-size software companies in Philadelphia”

—the Agent will:

  • Translate your description into targeting filters (e.g., Title → VP, Industry → Software).

  • Show sample leads that match your criteria.

  • Flag missing or conflicting criteria if your search needs improvement.

You can adjust your instructions and re-test until the examples look right.

Writing a Strong Target Persona Query

The Agent works best when you focus on a few core criteria, then let it intelligently fill in the rest. Too many filters or overly complex descriptions can overwhelm the system.

We recommend starting with these fields:

  • Title / Role – e.g., VP of Sales, Marketing Director.

  • Industry – e.g., SaaS, Healthcare, Manufacturing.

  • Location – e.g., Philadelphia, United States, North America.

  • Company Size or Revenue – e.g., 51–200 employees, $10M–$50M annual revenue.

Keeping your criteria simple ensures your Agent can:

  • Apply additional smart filters automatically.

  • Pull in a broader pool of relevant, high-quality prospects.

  • Adapt your targeting over time based on performance.

Pro Tip: If your test results aren’t what you expect, simplify your description and re-test. Once you have a solid match, your Agent will take it from there.
